Projects as Leader or Co-Leader

ékmailluine (ék)

Ek (short for Ékmailluine) is an interdisciplinary brass ensemble dedicated to expanding the artistic possibilities of the brass instrumental family through the creation and presentation of new works and the research and exploration of diverse creative approaches. The collective consists of pioneering artists with an expansive vision of how music can be experienced and shared, a collaboration that draws on the many capacities and interests of our membership including improvisation, theatre, movement, electronics, and instrument design.

Williwaw

Émilie Fortin (trumpet), Philippe Lauzier (saxophone) & Kalun Leung (trombone) form a trio named Williwaw. Their common curiosity manifests itself in the augmentation or transmutation of their instruments through the activation of performative objects. Improvisation is at the heart of their shenanigans.

Ambient Parade

Ambient Parade is an experimental marching band that subverts the traditional role of marching bands as loud, ceremonial, and authoritative symbols. By embracing minimalism and near-silent sonic textures, the group challenges the cultural expectations tied to public music, creating performances that blend seamlessly with the urban soundscape. Their work explores the intersections of sound, space, and power, offering a quiet, contemplative alternative to the bombastic history of marching bands. Through subtlety and restraint, Ambient Parade invites listeners to rethink how music functions in public spaces and what it means to truly listen.
